What to Expect at Your Boudoir Session in Austin

Most women who book a boudoir session have never done anything like it before. That's not unusual. it's kind of the point. And the most common thing I hear afterward? "I wish I'd done this sooner."

But before you get to that moment, there's often a wall of nerves. What actually happens? What do I wear? What if I feel awkward? What if I don't look the way I imagine?

Here's exactly what to expect. so you can walk in prepared instead of anxious.

Before You Arrive

The week before your session, we'll connect to go over your outfit choices, talk through any ideas you have, and answer any questions that are swirling around in your head. You'll also receive a prep guide. practical things like skincare, sleep, and what to bring.

A few things that make a real difference:

• Drink water. Hydrated skin photographs so much better.
• Avoid alcohol the night before. It shows in the skin.
• Wash your hair the night before (not the morning of). it gives hair and makeup something to work with.
• Bring 2–4 looks. Lingerie, a cozy oversized shirt, a dress, a robe. whatever feels like you. We'll help you decide what to shoot in what order.
• Eat something. Seriously. Sessions run long, and low blood sugar makes everything harder.

You Arrive. Hair & Makeup Comes First.

Every session at Samantha Haines Photography includes professional hair and makeup. and I don't say that as a footnote. It's foundational to what makes this experience different.

You'll arrive to our studio at Vue Studio, 2302 Jacks Pass, Austin TX 78732, and settle in. Our hair and makeup artist gets to work while you sip coffee and start to breathe. This part of the day isn't just functional. it's transitional. By the time the brush is down and you look in the mirror, something has shifted.

I've watched it happen hundreds of times. Women who walked in holding tension in their shoulders walk out of the makeup chair standing differently. Not because they look unrecognizable. but because they look like themselves, fully. That's the goal.

Hair and makeup runs about 60–90 minutes depending on your desired look. Use this time to settle in, ask questions, and stop rushing.

The Shoot Itself

Once hair and makeup is done, we move into the studio. The lights are already set. The music is already playing. Your first outfit is already hanging.

We start slow. The first few frames are always about getting comfortable. learning how to hold your body, where to put your hands, how to breathe into a pose rather than brace against it. I walk you through every single pose. You never have to guess what to do with your body.

Here's what surprises most clients: it's fun. About 20 minutes in, the nerves are usually gone entirely. What replaces them is something more like. presence. You're actually in it.

We typically shoot 2–3 outfit changes across the session. Between looks, there's a natural break. a moment to breathe, change, touch up, look at a few images on the back of the camera. I love showing clients images mid-session because it usually dissolves whatever remaining doubt they have about themselves.

What to Expect Emotionally

I'm going to be honest with you: some clients get emotional. Sometimes in the makeup chair. Sometimes when they see themselves in the mirror mid-session. Sometimes when they see the final gallery.

That's not strange. It's actually one of the things that makes this work meaningful to me. Most women spend a lot of years being their own harshest critic. This session asks you to let that go, even just for a few hours, and see yourself through a different lens.

You don't have to have it all together when you walk in. You just have to show up.

The Gallery

About two weeks after your session, your gallery is ready. We'll schedule a viewing appointment. you'll see the full, edited set of images and choose your favorites. Final images are delivered in high resolution, retouched and ready to print, share, or keep close.
